My “amateur career” as a web designer owes a lot to Matthew Price, who started his professional career in web design at Melbourne’s Vocations Office.

They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery, and I have imitated Matt a lot. For example, you can see the influence Matt’s St Patrick’s Cathedral website had on my design for the previous St Mary’s West Melbourne website.

For over a decade, Matt worked for the Archdiocese of Melbourne’s Catholic Communications, which set the standard of Catholic web design in Australia. In content and design, Matt’s sites blew the competition away.

These days, the contest is much closer, and there are a number of Catholic graphic designers which produce excellent websites. The Mercy Sisters’ Fraynework, and Luke Abercrombie’s work for the Archdiocese of Brisbane are good examples.

Matt left CathComm early last year, and his “solo career” is bearing fruit. The new seminary website is one of his, as is Sandhurst’s new website. Every designer has a trademark style. Matt’s, I think, is  unique: his background wallpapers are usually a major design feature. More examples of this can be seen in his web portfolio.

If you need a professional web designer, I recommend Matt Price. And that’s not just because he hosts my sites! Matt is consultative, his prices are competitive, and most importantly, his websites are excellent. Matthew Price: Transformation by design!
